Wicomico Woman Wins $50,000 Top Prize Playing Fortune of 50 Scratch-Off
Tia McArthur’s mom has been giving her daughter scratch-offs for years. “I’d give the scratch-offs to Tia and she would keep them in her pocketbook all day,” said her mother, who accompanied Tia to Lottery Headquarters to claim her prize.
This particular time around, Tia received a Fortune of 50 scratch-off from Mom, and in typical Tia fashion, the ticket sat unscratched until she returned home that evening. “I was sitting on the coach,” said the 22-year-old winner. “I was multi-tasking when I saw the second number, a 27, which was the $50,000 winning number on my ticket. I thought, this can’t be real.” Tia immediately showed her mother the ticket to confirm her good fortune. “Mom is the master of what is right,” the lucky winner said. “I couldn’t believe it either,” Tia’s mom added.
The win comes at an opportune time as Tia’s job hours have recently been cut and she had to take a break from school because she couldn’t afford tuition. “I’m very grateful,” said Tia. “I usually never win things.” The returning sophomore will use her winnings to go back to college for her AA in Communications. She also intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Other plans for her prize money include paying on her car loan and helping her mom, dad and grandmother. The winning ticket was purchased at Liberty Sunoco on Liberty Rd. in Baltimore.
