Silver Spring man claims $100,000 top prize
A Montgomery County man who unknowingly stashed a $100,000 winning Maryland Lottery scratch-off on his coffee table for weeks sure picked an instant ticket with the correct name.
His girlfriend spotted the Double Take scratch-off and actually did a double take on the $5 instant ticket. She quickly deduced she held a winner.
“I said, ‘No, are you kidding?’ ” recalled the Silver Spring man, who is a novice at playing scratch-offs. “I really didn’t realize I’d won. My girlfriend knew first!”
She assured him the ticket was a winner and he headed to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the ticket’s top prize.
The personal trainer bought the one Double Take ticket in May while at the 7-Eleven at 8472 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring. The 30-year-old scratched it off while in his car. Because he thought he didn’t win, he brought the ticket into the house when he got home. “I had it lying around,” he said. Our happy winner shared his news with members of his immediate family but no one else.
The entrepreneur plans to invest his winnings in a small business venture. He is researching franchise opportunities in the restaurant and automobile fields.
