Wins $50,000 second-tier prize on Get Rich ticket
When a Glen Burnie man stopped at his favorite Lottery retailer to pick up tickets for last weekend’s jackpot drawings, he decided to add a Get Rich scratch-off ticket to his order. While the man didn’t take home the $600 million Powerball jackpot, he’s more than happy with his $50,000 scratch-off win.
The 51-year-old told Lottery officials that he had started to scratch his ticket in the store when he noticed his ticket had matched one of the winning numbers. “I saw the first number and just thought there was no way this was happening,” he grinned. “Then when I saw the second number, I went to the clerk to check if I could cash it there.”
The man ended up taking his ticket home to his new apartment and placed it in a drawer until Lottery headquarters opened Monday morning. “I told my girlfriend about the win and she was very happy for me,” he said. “But I haven’t told anyone else yet.”
For now, the lucky winner is planning to purchase a new television to help outfit his apartment. “It’s pretty sparse right now; a new television is definitely first on my list of things to buy.” The man purchased his winning ticket at Sun Valley Liquors located at 7933 Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. in Glen Burnie.
There are still two remaining $1 million top-prize tickets and six $50,000 second-tier prizes that have yet to be claimed.
