Goddaughter’s Birth Date Provides Winning Racetrax Numbers

Dundalk man finishes 10-game run with more than $16,000

If you’ve ever heard a little voice in your head telling you to try your luck at a certain Maryland Lottery game and you do and you win, then you know exactly how a Dundalk man felt when he tried his luck at Racetrax. He won $16,416!

The 51-year-old federal government worker and his wife enjoy playing Keno, but last Friday he found Lottery luck by trying the computer-animated, horse-racing game.

“I don’t play Racetrax, but for some reason I felt compelled to play it that day,” he said. “I played 10 games and used my goddaughter’s birthday, a straight Trifecta, with the Bonus.”

Those numbers – 11, 6 and 7 – turned out to be very lucky. When the horses ran one race with that result, his bet paid off at $5,472. And, because he’d added the Bonus option to his ticket, the 3x multiplier drawn for that race tripled his prize.

“It was the third-to-last race I’d played and it came out,” he recalled. “I was worried it would come out boxed. I played straight because I didn’t have enough money with me to play boxed. When it came out straight, I knew it was going to be about a $5,000 payout, and then with the 3x Bonus, I knew I’d hit for more than 15 grand.”

The lucky winner hid the ticket in a place so secret he didn’t reveal it “in case I win again,” he said with a smile. “It’s possible I might want to hide another ticket there,” The lucky man has already won about $1,200 on a couple of occasions playing Keno.

Nearly a week went by before the happy winner came to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize. He and his wife have talked about buying a new car, he said, but for now they’ve decided to use their prize money to pay off bills.

“We’re going to clean the slate,” he said. “And then, maybe we’ll go have a nice steak dinner.”

He bought his winning ticket at the Glass Grill located at 6804 Eastern Ave. in Baltimore. The retailer will receive a $164.16 bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket over $10,000.
