“Goldust” Scratch-off Fan Strikes St. Patrick’s Day Gold

Lucky player wins $250,000 top prize

Some might say it’s the luck of the Irish and others might say the timing was just a coincidence. For one lucky Maryland Lottery scratch-off fan, finding a big win on St. Patrick’s Day “was about time!” The Montgomery Villaage man won a $250,000 top prize on the new Quarter Million Large scratch-off.

“I just couldn’t believe it!” he said. “I felt like it was all just a dream, like ‘Whoa,’ this really just happened to me!”

On Saturday, many Irish enthusiasts were seeing the color green everywhere while our lucky winner saw gold! Nicknamed “Goldust” for his Lottery publicity, the player was enjoying Saturday’s festivities when he had a sudden urge to not only see green, but maybe make some green. The loyal player went to one of his favorite Lottery retailers, Flower Hill Beer & Wine in Gaithersburg.

“I just love the people there,” he said. “The atmosphere is always pleasant and the people who work there really make it an enjoyable place.”

“Goldust” played Keno, which is one of his favorite games, while also buying scratch-offs.

“I was feeling so lucky that day,” he said, “that I even went back to my truck and brought in my horseshoe!”

After a while, “Goldust” played one last game of Keno and his last $10 instant ticket. That’s when he struck it rich and won the game’s big prize.

The happy player plans to save his prize for future endeavors and use some of it to pay bills. Joining in on the excitement is “Goldust’s” favorite retailer. For selling a $100,000 top prize scratch-off, the Montgomery County retailer will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

Players can still find lots of prizes on this $10 game. There are still three $250,000 top prizes, 13 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10-$1,000.
