Good News, Bad News Comes to Maryland Lottery Winner

Truck breaks down as he claims $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize

A Mechanicsville man who held onto a winning Maryland Lottery ticket for over a month claimed his $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win just in time. The good news was his quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket matched all five numbers from the Oct. 2 drawing, leading to award of the ticket’s top prize.

The bad news? The 50-year-old man’s trip to Baltimore to claim the ticket went well but the expensive trip home involved a tow truck. As soon as the Southern Maryland man pulled into the Lottery headquarters parking lot, his work truck broke down.

“This win obviously came at the right time,” the self-employed man told Lottery officials. After spending money to repair his work truck, the single father of three plans to bank the rest of the winnings to pay for college for his children.

He bought his winning ticket at Sea Breeze Restaurant and Bar located at 27130 S. Sandgate Road in Mechanicsville.
