Lucky Cecil County man wins $10,000 scratch-off prize
An Elkton resident got his week off to a rousing start by turning the Monday morning workday blues into Maryland Lottery green.
A quick stop for gas at the Sunoco station at 2391 West Pulaski Highway in North East filled more than the 31-year-old’s gas tank. His $10,000 top prize win on a 10X Cash scratch-off will fill his bank account and fund purchases of a family pet and seats at several Baltimore Ravens football games.
The lucky winner purchased the $10 ticket on the spur of the moment.
“I play scratch-offs, but not all that often,” he said. “Maybe once a month I’ll buy a couple and most of the time I just win my money back. I think the most I’ve ever won was a couple hundred dollars.”
This time, his Lottery check carries several more zeroes! After purchasing the ticket, he scratched it in his car and was shocked to see all 10 of his numbers match the winning numbers on his ticket.
“I just kept going down the line and the numbers kept matching,” he said. “I was just thinking ‘Holy smoke!’ ”
The Cecil County man said he called his wife to tell her the good news and then headed for Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize. The couple, married for eight years, plans to buy an Australian Cattle Dog with the prize and possibly tickets to a couple of Baltimore Ravens games this season.
The 10X Cash game went on sale in March, and 31 of its $10,000 top prizes haven’t yet been claimed. Also up for grabs are 15 scratch-offs that carry $1,000 prizes.
