Wins $50,000 Home Run Riches top prize
A Prince George’s County woman is resting a little easier, knowing that her bills will soon be paid thanks to a $50,000 Lottery win.
The mother of four stopped in Avenue Liquors earlier this week to purchase a few Lottery tickets, including a $5 Home Run Riches ticket. The Forestville resident took the tickets home to scratch them.
“When I saw I won $50,000, I had to ask my niece to look at it because I didn’t believe it,” she said. “Even after my niece confirmed it, I still didn’t believe it was real.”
The excited winner dubbed herself “Baseball Boo,” and was joined by her niece and brother as she claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The winner, who is employed as a nurse, said she plans on paying bills and helping her brother fix up his car.
For selling the winning ticket, Avenue Liquors at 3318 Walters Lane in District Heights will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
The Home Run Riches game, which still has four unclaimed $50,000 top-prizes, also offers a fun-filled second-chance contest. Non-winning Home Run Riches tickets can be entered in the Maryland Lottery’s Contestant of the Game contest. The Lottery selects a Contestant of the Game for all 162 Baltimore Orioles regular season games. Each Contestant receives $500 for being drawn, and an additional $500 for each home run hit by an Orioles’ player in that game. The next drawing will take place on Tuesday, April 25.
