Grandma’s Grocery Trip Leads to $30,000 Winning Discovery

Baltimore woman wins top prize on UNO scratch-off

A Baltimore City resident on a grocery trip with her grandma got more excitement than usual during their excursion. A series of events led her to uncover a top-prize win on a Maryland Lottery UNO™ scratch-off.

Their routine trip turned extraordinary when the 22-year-old suggested a detour that would make all the difference and give her a $30,000 prize.

The lucky granddaughter’s journey to good luck began with a stop for a few Lottery scratch-offs. Instead of grandma’s regular store, her granddaughter proposed they try another location. Grandma asked her to pick up some scratch-offs, too, and she decided to buy a bunch for both of them.

Before driving away, the granddaughter scratched off her instant tickets, revealing a $5 win. Her grandmother suggested trying her luck again, so she cashed in her winning scratch-off and selected a $3 UNO instant ticket at Maiden Choice Liquors in Baltimore. That extra purchase paid off when she revealed a winning set of cards on her scratch-off and won $30,000.

“I just kept saying to myself ‘That can’t be real,’ ” said the winner.

The recent college graduate said the prize would help her pay for several big life events. She plans to use her winnings to pay off her tuition debt and finance a future move.

Also celebrating is her lucky Lottery retailer, Maiden Choice Liquors located at 1064 Maiden Choice Lane in Baltimore. For selling the top-prize winning scratch-off, the lucky Baltimore City retailer earned a $300 bonus from the Lottery.

The UNO scratch-off launched in 2020. It features prizes from $3 to $1,000 and a top prize of $30,000. With this win, the popular game now has one more $30,000 top prize remaining.
