First time playing the Maryland Lottery in years
A Severn woman’s spur of the moment decision to buy a few Powerball tickets turned into the decision of a lifetime. On Sept. 10, the grandmother of 30 stopped at a 7-Eleven store to buy the tickets and, today, she is $40,000 richer!
“I hadn’t played the Lottery in years,” the 56-year-old told Lottery officials. “For some reason, I just decided to play that day. Boy, am I glad I did!”
The lucky winner put the tickets away and did not check them for about a week. She brought them back to the store and had the clerk check them. One ticket was such a big winner the clerk couldn’t cash it and sent the lucky lady to Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. The woman had no clue how much the ticket was worth when she arrived at headquarters with a grandchild in tow.
“The Lottery checked my ticket and told me it was $40,000,” she said. “I just couldn’t believe it.”
The happy winner matched four white balls and the Powerball, which is normally a $10,000 win. However, when buying the ticket, she had added the Power Play option and that feature automatically increases prize amounts on winning tickets.
With her winnings, the fortunate woman plans to buy a new car and donate to her church. She found her life-changing lucky ticket at the 7-Eleven at 1250 Crain Hwy in Glen Burnie.
