23-year-old winner ‘totally shocked’ at big scratch-off prize
A 23-year-old Baltimore man got the shock of his life after winning a $10,000 prize on a $250,000 High Rollers Club scratch-off ticket.
The winning ticket came courtesy of his grandmother, who bought it for him while they were filling her car’s gas tank at BWI Chevron, located at 500 Progress Drive in Linthicum.
“I picked the ticket that was in dispenser 13 because my birthday is on the 13th,” she said. “That’s also my lucky number.”
As they drove away from the Anne Arundel County gas station, the lucky winner said it took a few minutes before he gave the ticket a good look.
“I finally took a glance at the ticket and I was totally shocked,” he said. “This is the most money that I have ever won. I’m just in complete shock. It’s the same kind of feeling I had when I graduated high school.”
The lucky winner’s grandmother said she agreed to buy him the ticket because she wanted to reward him for staying out of trouble and for being such a good grandson.
“I’m so proud of him,” she said. “He’s really trying to do something special with his life.”
The winner said he planned to use the prize money to pay a few bills, pay tuition for the trade school he’s attending and, of course, help his grandmother.
“I just want to do something special for my grandmother,” he said. “She’s been such a blessing to me.”
$250,000 High Rollers Club is a $10 instant ticket that debuted in February. It still has three $250,000 top prizes waiting to be claimed, seven more $10,000 prizes, and thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
