Granite Fabricator a Rock Star After $50,000 Scratch-off Win

$50,000 winner Ilyas Terzi, left, poses with his lucky employee Rogelio Sanchez.

Claims prize on 50x The Cash scratch-off

For one lucky Stevensville man, delegation is the secret to selecting a winning scratch-off. His friend’s “Midas touch” gave Ilyas Terzi a $50,000 prize on a 50x The Cash scratch-off.

The lucky duo work together at Ilyas’ company, AU Granite & Marble LLC. When friend and employee Rogelio Sanchez said he was headed to the store, Ilyas handed him a $20 bill and asked him to buy two scratch-offs. Rogelio made a random selection at the Suitland Road Exxon in Morningside of two 50x The Cash scratch-offs.

Ilyas discovered how lucky that selection was when he scratched the tickets off later at home. One of the instant tickets multiplied his excitement by winning big – a 50x emblem revealed over a $1,000 prize gave Ilyas the game’s $50,000 prize.

The Queen Anne’s County resident emigrated from Turkey, deciding to settle in Maryland when his cargo ship arrived at the Port of Baltimore nearly 30 years ago. After settling in, the 48-year-old began his Annapolis business that specializes in custom countertops and stone fabrication.

According to Ilyas, revealing his prize was only part of the winning experience. “Just coming in is as much fun as winning,” he said as he enjoyed his time in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Ilyas said he plans to share a portion of the $50,000 prize with Rogelio for picking the lucky instant ticket. He also plans to incorporate Rogelio into his attempt to win the rapidly rising Powerball jackpot. “He’s buying the ticket and may pick the numbers, too,” said Ilyas.

His lucky retailer, Suitland Road Exxon, is located at 6500 Suitland Road in Morningside. This was the first $50,000 second-tier prize won on the 50X the Cash game since it launched three weeks ago. There are still seven unclaimed $100,000 top prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
