Salisbury couple purchase winning scratch-off
An urgent need for cottage cheese and a hefty Powerball jackpot enticed a Salisbury couple to stop by the grocery on their way home from dinner Friday night. The retirees bagged more than they’d planned when an impulse Tax Free $50,000 scratch-off ticket purchase yielded a $50,000 top prize.
While his wife shopped, the husband bought what he hoped would be a $590 million winning Powerball ticket and four scratch-offs for her to play at home. The man usually purchases $10 scratch-offs for his wife, but for some unknown reason, the $5 Tax-Free $50,000 scratch-off intrigued him. When the couple returned home, the retired State worker scratched it to reveal a winning symbol next to a $50,000 prize. “The zeroes just kept going on and on and on,” said the lucky lady. “I started shouting for my husband to put his glasses on so he could read the ticket.”
After the excitement, the couple put the winning ticket in a safe and tried to beat back any anxiousness until Lottery offices opened on Monday morning. They plan to share their winnings with their family. The lucky ticket was purchased at the Giant Food supermarket located on Salisbury Boulevard in Salisbury.
