Rockville man claims$100,000 win on Maximum Money game
A lucky Montgomery County man who added several Maryland Lottery scratch-offs to his grocery purchase wound up $100,000 richer last weekend.
The 61-year-old won the top prize on a Maximum Money scratch-off bought at Convenience Express in Silver Spring. “I’m very fortunate,” said the elated winner.
The Rockville resident was at the right place at the right time Saturday afternoon to find his lucky scratch-off. While at the register, ready to pay for his groceries, the loyal scratch-off player spotted the display of Maryland Lottery games.
Struck by a strong feeling that he should buy instant tickets, the player added several games to his grocery purchase. He scratched off the games enough to scan them on the store’s ticket checker and immediately saw that the Maximum Money game had delivered some type of maximum prize.
“I was very happy,” he said. “I knew that I won big and had to play it cool, so I left immediately.”
With the second biggest prize on the game being $5,000, the player wasn’t sure if he had won that prize or a top prize. After arriving at home, he scratched off the entire instant ticket to see how much he’d won and discovered the top prize was his! The winner called his closest friends and family members to tell them the amazing news.
The winner told Lottery officials that he has no immediate plans for his prize and plans to save it until something special happens in his life. Sharing in his victory is Convenience Express located at 948 Wayne Avenue. Because it sold sold a top-prize scratch-off in the $10 game, the lucky Lottery retailer earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
Our winner left plenty of prizes in the game for others to find. Still up for grabs are three more $100,000 top prizes, 11 $10,000 prizes and thousands of other unclaimed prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
