Love of a movie led this Baltimore hair stylist to buy a top-prize winning scratch-off.
“Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” is a Baltimore hair stylist’s favorite movie, which made buying the Maryland Lottery’s WILLY WONKA GOLDEN TICKET™ scratch-off a no brainer. The lucky lady was rewarded for her loyalty with the game’s $100,000 top prize.
The 46-year-old found her good fortune at the Crownsville Shell in Anne Arundel County. She stopped at the Crownsville Lottery retailer to buy gas and added the $10 scratch-off to her purchase. Scratching off the instant ticket’s Prize Check area, the loyal player scanned the game with the store instant ticket checker.
“That was when I got the shock of my life,” she said. “The message congratulated me and then told me to present my winning ticket for my $100,000 prize. I was so flushed after seeing that I had won $100,000 that I almost forgot how to pump gas.”
The winner, who dubbed herself “Charlie’s Angels” for Lottery publicity, has her favorite movie to thank for inspiring her purchase. “I just have fond memories whenever I think of this movie,” she said. “When I saw it at the gas station, I just wanted to buy it.”
The excited winner plans to use some of her prize to pay off her car. She’ll use another portion of it for a prepaid European vacation with her boyfriend of four years.
There are five more $100,000 top prizes in the popular game, which carries a second-chance contest that can turn players into billionaires. They can enter non-winning WILLY WONKA GOLDEN TICKET™ scratch-offs into the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE™ for a chance to travel to Las Vegas to try to win up to $1 billion. The next drawing deadline is Sept. 10.
