Happy Market, Happy Player: Delaware Man Wins $50,000 Prize

Cambridge retailer sells final top-prize scratch-off in Holiday Cash Times 10 game

Holiday_Cash_Times_10_ITVM_2016A cashier from Seaford, Del., took a second chance on buying Maryland Lottery scratch-offs and that decision paid off to the tune of $50,000.

The lucky winner was visiting relatives in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago when he stopped for snacks and $10 worth of scratch-offs at the Happy Market, located at 222 Washington Street. He didn’t find a winner among that group of tickets, but then he decided to buy a $5 Holiday Cash Times 10 ticket.

“The first thing I did was scratch the code,” he said, referring to the prize check code in the bottom right corner of the ticket. The scanner delivered fantastic news: Cash at Lottery.

“At first I thought maybe I wasn’t seeing it right,” he said. “But I was very happy.”

He left the store and went home before calling his family to tell them about his good fortune. The Delaware resident said he plans to use the prize money to buy a new Honda Accord and is also hoping to plan a special vacation. His father joined him at Lottery headquarters as he claimed the last of the Holiday Cash Times 10 instant ticket’s five $50,000 top prizes.

The Dorchester County retailer is a winner as well. For selling the top-prize winning ticket, the store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
