Havre De Grace Couple Score Big with Ravens Scratch-off

Tim and April Kiel of Havre de Grace scored a $100,000 win on a Ravens scratch-off.

Brings home $100,000 top prize

Sunday was a crazy day for the Kiel family of Havre de Grace. April Kiel was away at a local hospital for a pre-existing condition. Seeing that their family might need a break, Tim Kiel decided to take the 10- and 12-year-old sons to a movie. On the way, a stop for gas led to a $100,000 Ravens scratch-off win.

“My oldest son is a big Ravens fan and he suggested I buy the Ravens game,” said 36-year-old Tim. “I scratched it while I pumped gas and then put it down in the car.” One of his sons looked at the instant ticket and asked, “How do you win?” Tim said. “I told him you have to match the numbers. My son said, ‘Well, I think you won $100,000!’ ”

Skeptically, Tim looked at the Ravens scratch-off and it was, indeed, a $100,000 top-prize winner. The Harford County resident went back inside Lottery retailer Aberdeen Shell, to double check the prize and confirmed the win. “I just couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I called my wife immediately to tell her.”

“I thought he was joking,” said April, 32, a stay-at-home mom. “I didn’t believe it until he showed me in person on Tuesday.”

Tim secured the winning ticket in the glove compartment in his car and the trio proceeded to the movie. Afterward, the grocery warehouse employee kept the ticket with him everywhere he went.

April was released from the hospital on Wednesday and the happy couple claimed the $100,000 prize on Thursday. They told Lottery officials they plan to use the prize to buy a house and go on a nice vacation.

The lucky retailer that sold the winning Ravens ticket was Aberdeen Shell located at 1026 Middleton Road in Aberdeen. For selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game, the retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
