Michael Alejandro plays the Maryland Lottery’s scratch-off games “religiously,” as he puts it, and his favorites are those that involve an automatic win feature or matching numbers. After Nov. 16, though, he has a very specific favorite game: $100,000 Winter Winfall. Winning the game’s $100,000 top prize capped a day of good luck for the 28-year-old Rock Hall man.
His good fortune started that morning when he participated in a turkey raffle and won the last available turkey. Still feeling lucky, he went to Royal Farms #250 at 859 High Street in Chestertown and bought a $100,000 Winter Winfall instant ticket. The $10 scratch-off was good for a $15 payoff so the Kent County resident decided to play the same game again. That’s when he hit big!
Michael is still weighing his options for his prize, saying, “I’m not going to party and blow all of the money.” The concrete company employee is planning a few low-key celebrations, such as taking in a round of clay target shooting, and then may buy a house. This choice would make his dad a winner, too, because Michael currently lives with his father. His dad plans to move south once his son gets his own place.
Also sharing in Michael’s good fortune is the Royal Farms store. The Lottery retailer earns a bonus of $1,000 from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize scratch-off. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize. Six more top prizes remain in the $100,000 Winter Winfall game along with 15 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others.
