Holiday Gold Scratch-off Win Helps with House Purchase

Lucky Lewis Lanning Jr. of Glen Burnie struck gold this season with a Holiday Gold scratch-off.

Anne Arundel County man wins $50,000 top prize

A gift of holiday gold from Lady Luck is helping a happy Glen Burnie man buy a house in West Virginia. The 51-year-old found a $50,000 top prize on the Holiday Gold game several weeks ago and claimed his prize in the New Year to spend on his new home.

A frequent scratch-off buyer, Lewis Lanning Jr. favors $5 instant tickets because he likes the price and these games’ $50,000 top prizes. Lewis plays all of the Maryland Lottery’s $5 scratch-offs and made his purchase of the winning Holiday Gold game on a whim.

He found his lucky instant ticket at Slide In Mart located at 7925 Crain Highway in Glen Burnie. When Lewis told his friend about his Lottery luck, she reacted with shouting and joyful excitement because she initially thought he was joking.

Asked how he felt about the $50,000 prize, Lewis said, “It’ll go quick.” He plans to pay bills with his prize and use the funds to help finance his out-of-state house purchase.

His Lottery retailer also shares in the big win. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Anne Arundel County store earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

The Holiday Gold scratch-off has two $50,000 top prizes remaining along with four unclaimed $5,000 prizes. The game is one of five holiday scratch-offs that players can enter into the Holiday Cash & Dash Second-chance Promotion. The next drawing deadlines are Jan. 6 and 13. Players simply enter non-winning holiday scratch-offs through their My Lottery Rewards account for the chance to win over $500,000 in cash prizes or $300 worth of scratch-offs or the warehouse dash trip to Chicago. Warehouse dash winners get to race through a prize warehouse with a shopping cart, loading it up with as many prizes as possible in 90 seconds.
