With Sunday football and the approaching holiday, the grocery store was busy thie past weekend when Kelly Roberts purchased a few scratch-offs for stocking stuffers, along with an extra ticket for herself. The Frederick County retail clerk had no idea that she would soon ring up a $100,000 win, claiming a top prize on the $100,000 Winter Winfall scratch-off.
The 47-year-old Myersville resident explained that she was picking up a few tickets in a last-minute lurch to her holiday shopping finish line, when she treated herself to a $10 scratch-off. Kelly scratched her ticket quickly before heading home. When she matched a winning number, she revealed the prize amount and a six-figure number appeared. She rushed home to share the news with her husband, Freddie, and the kids.
“I guess it was just her time to shine,” Freddie said.
Kelly says news of her luck has spread quickly throughout the store and the small town of Myersville. She told Lottery officials she and Freddie plan to use the funds to make a long-held dream of home ownership come true.
The store that sold the epic stocking stuffer was the Shop N Save supermarket located at 22401 Jefferson Boulevard in Smithsburg. For selling the winning ticket, the lucky retailer will earn a $1,000 bonus.
The win marks the third top-prize win on the $10 scratch-off, which still has five remaining $100,000 top prizes.
