Baltimore woman claims top prize on Deluxe Cash Crossword game
After a career spent serving tourists at Baltimore Inner Harbor attractions, a retired hospitality employee is enjoying her unexpected $50,000 serving of a Maryland Lottery scratch-off win.
The Baltimore City resident is a lifelong Lottery player who favors bingo and crossword scratch-offs plus Pick 3 and Pick 4 games. In fact, she showed up at Lottery headquarters with her Pick 3/Pick 4 tickets even as she claimed her top-tier prize on a $5 Deluxe Cash Crossword!
Lottery luck came her way when the grandmother of one visited the New Greenmount Market at 1913 Greenmount Ave. in Baltimore. When she discovered her win, the 60-year-old couldn’t hold back her excitement.
“I screamed!” she said. “I called my sister at work and she had to go to the corner to scream!”
Winning is now a shared family experience, since her sister won $100,000 on a Lottery game in 2001.
The happy mother of one plans to pay bills with her winnings, share some of the prize with her family, “go shopping and party!” she said. Her sister, who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters, also insisted her sibling will set funds aside to bolster her retirement savings.
For selling the top-prize ticket, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The Deluxe Cash Crossword scratch-off still has four $50,000 top-prize tickets awaiting discovery in Maryland stores.
