Hyattsville Construction Worker Nails $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Win

Bought ticket in Takoma Park for the Sept. 7 drawing

Every other day, a Hyattsville man purchases a Maryland Lottery Bonus Match 5 ticket in hopes of winning the game’s $50,000 top prize. Luck was on his side on Sept. 7, when he bought a $2 ticket with three Quick Pick boards.

The Prince George’s County resident, who works in construction, was with a co-worker when he decided to check the ticket he bought from the W Express in Takoma Park. The ticket scanner failed to reveal a specific prize amount. The loyal Lottery player took it to the clerk, who told him he needed to come to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.

“I had no idea it was worth so much,” he said.

Together, the pair made the trip to claim his prize. His co-worker was visibly impressed by his friend’s good fortune. “I haven’t played the Lottery in a long time,” he admitted. “Stuff like this really makes you reconsider playing.”

The lucky winner isn’t sure how the prize will be spent. “You’ll have to ask my wife,” he laughed. “She’s in charge of all the money.”

He found his Lottery luck at W Express located at 6400 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park. The Lottery is still seeking winners of three unclaimed $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prizes. The winning tickets were sold at:

• Lee’s Convenient Market in Fort Washington for the March 16 drawing.
• 7-Eleven #21572 in Baltimore for the April 14 drawing.
• Kensington Pharmacy in Kensington for the Aug. 22 drawing.

Winners have 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
