Hyattsville Woman Races to Finish Line with $61,689.80 Win

Takes home prize on Racetrax Superfecta Box bet

While watching some Racetrax games on a monitor at Ardwick Liquors in Landover on Dec. 18, a Hyattsville woman noticed a few races with high-numbered (and long odds) horses finishing in the money. Soon after, she decided to play a 9, 10, 11 and 12 Superfecta Box wager, hoping the streak would continue. Her wish came true: she galloped to a $61,689.80 win.

“I called my sister and my son to tell them I won 61,” the Prince Georges County woman told Lottery officials. “They thought I meant $61 or $6,100. They couldn’t believe it when I told them I won more than $61,000.”

The 60-year-old nursing assistant enjoys playing Maryland and DC Lottery games. Although she has won a few smaller prizes over the years, this prize is her largest win yet.

Asked of her plans for the prize, the generous winner said she will invest, donate to charity and share with family.

Ardwick Liquors at 8307 Ardwick-Ardmore Rd. in Landover also benefits from this win. The store earns a $616.89 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
