Claims top prize in April 8 Bonus Match 5 drawing
A Prince George’s County woman is certainly happy she detoured from her route to buy Maryland Lottery tickets on April 8. The lucky lady, who usually plays Lottery games twice a week, acted on an impulse to purchase Lottery tickets that evening.
Her unplanned stop at a convenience store and a $2 quick-pick Bonus Match 5 ticket led to her biggest Lottery payday to date — a $50,000 prize!
The 63-year-old found her Lottery luck at 24 Express located at 4451 Wheeler Road in Oxon Hill. The Temple Hills resident bought Cash4Life and Bonus Match 5 tickets. Not expecting much, she waited until the next day to check her tickets. Her lucky Bonus Match 5 win occurred in the drawing only hours after her purchase.
The next day, she checked her ticket using her smartphone. The winner saw numbers on her Bonus Match 5 ticket match the winning numbers listed on the Maryland Lottery app. In disbelief, she kept checking the ticket. “I didn’t scream, cry or anything,” the woman said, “but I was very happy.”
She’s keeping news of her new fortune private. A government employee for over three decades, the winner plans to use her prize to pay off bills and pay taxes.
Her winning Prince George’s County retailer, 24 Express, also shares in her good fortune. The store earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the game.
