Impulse Buy Leads to $50,000 Lottery Win

Claims top prize on Fantasy 5s scratch-off

246-Fantasy-5s-ITVM_P1-blueA spur-of-the-moment decision to purchase a $5 Maryland Lottery scratch-off led to a $50,000 top-prize win for a happy Harford County woman. The lucky lady rarely plays Lottery games, but on a whim purchased a Fantasy 5s ticket at Saubel’s Market in Whiteford on Friday while on a break from work.

The 51-year-old scratched off the instant ticket and revealed a lot of $5,000 prizes. After doing the math and doubting the result, she showed the ticket to her boss and asked him to add up the amounts as well. They both came up with the same number – $50,000!

“I couldn’t believe it, especially because I don’t play that often,” the winner said. “I’m excited to finally get the new carpet we’ve been wanting.”

In addition to carpet for her house, the winner plans to pay off her debt and visit a casino.

For selling a top-prize ticket, the lucky retailer is also a winner. Saubel’s Market, located at 2902 Whiteford Road, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The game, which went on sale in February, still has more than 500,000 prizes including five top prizes and 10 $5,000 prizes.
