Anne Arundel County resident played 7x the Money scratch-off
A loyal Maryland Lottery scratch-off player won $77,700 by following his intuition and buying a 7x the Money scratch-off. He plays two or three times a week and on Friday, he felt compelled to pick that scratch-off ticket even though he hadn’t been as lucky in the past with the ticket.
“When the feeling hits, I play the scratch-off,” said the Odenton resident. He bought his ticket at the Tobacco N Gift Emporium in Glen Burnie, brought the ticket home and scratched it off at his desk.
“I’m so used to not seeing anything as far as winning,” the 67-year-old said, “but this time, it looked like I won. I took another look and I looked again.” He called out his wife’s name and she hurried to his side, thinking something was wrong.
“He was trembling a bit,” she recalled. “He said, ‘Let me be sure and asked me to check the ticket.’ ” Dubious that he’d really won $77,700, she suggested they take the ticket back to the store to have a clerk check it.
“The man scanned it and he looked up at me and his eyes got real big,” our lucky winner said. “He jumped up and down a little and he shook my hand.”
The couple hid the ticket all weekend in their library. The Anne Arundel County residents are keeping their good fortune a secret – for now – from everyone, including their two adult children, a son-in-law and three grandchildren. They also have not yet decided how to spend their winnings.
