Jackpot Fan From Catonsville Fills Gas Tank and Pockets

Restaurant employee wins $50,000 Powerball prize

A 51-year-old restaurant employee is feeling especially grateful after winning $50,000 on one of her favorite games, Powerball. The lucky player matched four white balls and the red Power Ball in the May 28 drawing, which delivered the big win.

The jackpot chaser said she plays Mega Millions and Powerball every week in hopes of landing a jackpot. During the last week of May, she was on the way home from work when she stopped at 40 West Shell at 700 North Rolling Road in Catonsville to fill her gas tank and purchase tickets for the May 28 Powerball drawing.

It wasn’t until three weeks later when the lucky player decided to check her tickets.

“It was nice a day, so I decided to take a walk on my break from work,” she said. “I remembered my husband telling me to get some tickets, so I bought some and checked the ones in my purse.”

When she scanned her ticket at a nearby Lottery retailer’s ticket checker, she saw a message she hadn’t seen before: “Cash at Lottery.” A little confused, she handed the ticket to the cashier who delivered the good news.

“He pulled up the numbers and told me that I had won some money and that it could be $50,000,” she said, adding that she called her husband to come get her. Together they confirmed the $50,000 prize, and after that they wasted no time heading straight to the Lottery’s Baltimore headquarters to claim it. The mother of two adult children said she plans to pay off her car and save the rest of her winnings.
