Nonchalant player takes home $50,000 Powerball Prize
A Salisbury man, who enjoys playing jackpot games, takes home a $50,000 Powerball prize the day before Thanksgiving. The 85-year-old was pretty subdued about the win.
“Well, you know it’s just another day,” he smiled as he talked to Lottery Officials about the win. “But, I am happy about it.”
Every few days or so, the winner purchases quick pick Mega Millions and Powerball tickets, hoping to hit the jackpot. He stuck to that routine on Tuesday, November 8. The Powerball drawing the following night yielded all of the lucky man’s numbers, except one. He matched four of the white balls and the red Power Ball, making him $50,000 richer.
“I didn’t find out that I won until yesterday,” said the player. “I was at a Lottery retailer and decided to check my tickets.”
The big winner said the message came across the screen that he needed to come to Lottery headquarters. But, to be completely sure, he left and went to where he initially purchased the ticket at Crossroads Food Mart, located at 2601 Old Ocean City Rd. in Salisbury. That’s where he confirmed the win.
The father-of-three adult sons shared the news with his family, including his middle child who accompanied him to claim the prize today. The retired DuPont Company employee plans to use the winnings towards medical bills.
