Shares news of his good fortune with restaurant patrons
Changing his Keno game-playing strategy helped bring a lucky Westminster man to the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle, where he celebrated the biggest win of his life.
The loyal player, who dubbed himself “Keno King,” landed his lucky $25,000 prize at The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille in Westminster. He stopped in early one evening around happy hour to play his favorite Lottery game.
“I just happened to stop in and decided to try my luck,” said the 50-year-old. “Keno King” also decided to follow a suggestion and abandon his practice of playing his “lucky” numbers. “The last two times,” he said, “I let the machine pick the numbers.”
That change in his strategy gave him a change in his fortunes.
“Keno King” placed a 7-spot bet that evening, letting the terminal quick pick his numbers. He then added the Super Bonus multiplier for five drawings. He couldn’t contain his joy when he realized he won with a 5X Super Bonus multiplier.
“I was jumping and hooting and hollering,” he said. “I checked my ticket about 10 times!” He even had another customer check his ticket, too.
The father of four and grandfather of three claimed his prize with his wife by his side. The winnings come at a great time and will go to pay their mortgage and bills, said the Carroll County pair.
The “Keno King’s” favorite retailer can celebrate, too. For selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more, The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille, located at 830 Market Street in Westminster, will earn a bonus from the Lottery of $250. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
