Second to claim top prize on Ravens game
A loyal Baltimore Ravens fan who plays Maryland Lottery Ravens scratch-offs every season REALLY likes the Lottery’s 2015 instant ticket – for 100,000 reasons. The Kensington resident just won one of the game’s $100,000 top prizes!
“I love playing the tickets every year,” said the 74-year-old. “I do love this team!”
Although she often scores small wins on the $5 scratch-off, the longtime Lottery player never imagined finding her fortune with the game. She commutes to work on the Metro and enjoys stopping along the way at Crescent Convenience in Bethesda to play scratch-offs while waiting for her bus.
On the day Lottery luck arrived, the clothing department store employee bought her Ravens instant ticket and settled in to scratch it off. She stopped scratching, however, the instant she revealed the important $100,000 matching number on her ticket.
“When I saw it, I ran out of the store,” she said, telling store patrons, “My bus is coming!”
She kept the ticket with her, half scratched, until she got home where she lives with a married couple. The husband was watching TV when she sat down without saying a word.
“She was sitting in front of me, quietly, I didn’t know what was going on,” he said. “She told me, ‘I hit the jackpot’ and I didn’t believe her.” He and the winner turned to his wife to help them verify the $100,000 win. “I didn’t believe her either at first,” the wife said. Our winner gave the ticket to her friends to keep safe until they could drive her to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim her prize.
What will the Montgomery County woman do with her windfall? See her beloved Ravens in person? No, she and her friends enjoy watching the Ravens on TV to avoid the crowds and traffic. Instead, the native of Thailand is planning a trip there to visit relatives she hasn’t seen since she came to the United States more than 50 years ago. The single woman also plans to give money to charity and will keep playing Ravens scratch-offs on days she commutes to work.
Sharing in the joy of her win is Crescent Convenience located at 7475 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. The store will get a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket. There are still three $100,000 top-prize Ravens tickets unclaimed, along with 14 $10,000 winning tickets. But if your Ravens ticket isn’t a winner, don’t forget the second-chance contest in progress through My Lottery Rewards that lets you pick the Ravens prize you want a chance to win. Your non-winning ticket could earn you Ravens season tickets for 20 years, a trip to Miami for the Dec. 6 game against the Dolphins or other great prizes.
