Kent County Powerball Player Finds Life-Changing Win

Retired welder claims $100,000 prize

More than two months have passed since a Rock Hall man watched the Saturday night Powerball drawing that changed his life. He has so enjoyed the happiness and relief from seeing the five winning numbers he matched – four white ones and the Power Ball at the end – that he was in no hurry to claim his $100,000 prize. Having it “in his back pocket” has made every day since significantly happier.

“I play Lottery a lot, maybe five or six times a week,” said the 81-year-old former construction worker. “And, I win a lot, too.” He picked the Powerball numbers that proved so lucky for him in the May 10 drawing, though they hold no significance. “I just picked numbers at random.” Happily for him, the Kent County resident also slapped down an extra dollar during his purchase at Rock Hall Liquors to add the Power Play multiplier feature to his ticket. That decision turned what would have been a $50,000 win into the $100,000 he took home.

After writing down the Powerball numbers as the balls were drawn and comparing them to his ticket, the lucky player started to get excited. “I was breathing real fast,” he said. “I knew it was a win and I knew it was big, but just not how big.” A visit to a nearby Lottery retailer confirmed that Powerball luck had come to visit Rock Hall. “I saw that I’d matched enough for a $50,000 win and only then remembered that I’d gotten the Power Play, too!”

Rock Hall Liquors at 21318 Rock Hall Road helped make Maryland’s latest Powerball winner’s Lottery dreams come true. He plans to invest his winnings into a new home before long. “I’ve been thinking about upgrading recently. This money means I can do more than think about it.”

Our lucky player was the only Marylander to win the $50,000 prize in the May 10 drawing. Nationwide, 21 players won the third-tier prize and three won $1 million prizes. The jackpot recently began rolling and reached $172 million for Saturday’s drawing. The cash option is $106.4 million.
