Baltimore woman almost missed out on her Superfecta prize
An off and on Racetrax player can thank family birthdays and her significant other’s hunger for a $12,327 win on the popular game last Sunday. However, the Baltimore resident almost missed out on her newfound riches when she briefly lost her winning ticket!
The 70-year-old player and her significant other were out and about when her partner decided he wanted something to eat. The pair ended up at Ravenwood Shopping Center in Towson after stopping at numerous restaurants only to learn they were closed on Sundays. While her friend went into a Giant grocery to buy the makings of a meal, the Racetrax player headed to E-Z Convenience to kill time playing the game.
The lucky lady placed a two-draw Superfecta wager on horses 2, 5, 10 and 7, using numbers that are family birthdays. She stayed in the store while the races took place but didn’t see her horses gallop across the finish line in that order.
“I just looked up at the screen and saw my numbers,” she said. “To be honest, I don’t even know how to play Racetrax! I usually just tell the cashier, ‘Straight for $1 on Racetrax’ and they know what I mean.”
Excited, she took her ticket to the cashier. He scanned it and gave her a printout confirming the big prize. Shaking, she met her significant other back at the car and shared her great news.
“I didn’t believe it was that much,” he said. “I needed her to show me the ticket.” He was driving away when the shaken Racetrax player realized her winning ticket was missing! She hoped she left it at the store. “She made me turn around in the middle of Taylor Avenue,” he said, chuckling.
Luckily, when she arrived at E-Z Convenience at 8104 Loch Raven Boulevard, the cashier was waiting for her with the winning ticket in hand. She immediately put the lucky ticket in her wallet and enjoyed a restful night’s sleep before claiming the $12,327 prize the next morning. The big winner plans to save her prize for the future.
Getting a bonus from the Lottery for its winning sale is E-Z Convenience. The Towson retailer earns a bonus of $123.27 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
