Superfecta Box wager delivers $16,907.30 payout
A retired healthcare worker from Baltimore won an epic race on Sunday, but remained unaware for hours that her Racetrax horses had galloped to a $16,907.30 finish.
The lucky lady reports that she typically buys a Racetrax ticket for 20 drawings and later checks her results using one of the Maryland Lottery mobile apps. That’s just what she did on the day of her big win, too!
The 66-year-old placed her winning Superfecta Box wager Sunday at a Baltimore Royal Farms using a set of numbers she dreamed up. Her first lucky break came when she saved $5 on her purchase because she placed it during the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax $6 for $5 promotion that ends Sept. 8. Lady Luck also gave her a hand when the avid player bet that the 5, 6, 11 and 12 horses would finish in first through fourth place in any order — and they did! On the very first race, her horses finished 12, 5, 6 and 11 for the big payout.
Our winner remained unaware of her Racetrax success until later in the day. After purchasing the ticket that morning, she went home and didn’t check it until hours later. Although excited, the retiree plans to take her time embracing her success.
“The celebrating will begin when my money is in the bank,” she said. The winner told Lottery officials that she has no immediate plans for the funds other than paying off a few bills.
Also in the money is the lucky Lottery retailer. Royal Farms #011 at 5232 Harford Road in Baltimore earns a $169.07 bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
