Prince George’s County man acts on lucky feeling
A Fort Washington resident nagged by a lucky feeling about the next Racetrax game finally rushed to the counter of his local Lottery retailer, F&W Convenience. He hoped to place a Trifecta Box bet on the number 8, 10 and 12 horses to win in any order. One of the retailer’s speedy clerks got his bet in just before the game closed and, just like that, the horses were off and running.
“I stayed and watched the game and saw the horses come up,” said the 51-year-old. He’d won big! “I quietly walked out of the store, but not before catching the eye of the salesperson. I told her, ‘I will see you tomorrow.’ ” He planned to do something nice for the clerk because his last-minute bet paid out $13,971!
The calm winner kept news of his good fortune to himself until the next morning.
“I called my boss to tell him I needed to head to Baltimore to take care of some business and asked for the day off,” he said. “Then, I called one of my co-workers and said we need to take a ride to Baltimore.” As she got in the car, he told her about his big Racetrax prize.
The happy winner was smiling from ear to ear all the way to Baltimore and his co-worker was just as happy for him. The lucky Prince George’s County resident plans to put his prize in the bank for now.
His Lottery retailer wins, too. F&W Convenience, which is located at 974 East Swan Creek Road in Fort Washington, will receive a $139 bonus for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
