Catonsville man claims top prize on scratch-off
A Baltimore County man went out to grab a cup of coffee on Saturday and decided to stop at JP’s Fine Wine & Spirits to buy Powerball tickets. Before leaving the store, The Price is Right scratch-off caught his eye. He purchased four tickets and took them to his car to scratch.
“When I got in the car with my wife, I started scratching the tickets and the first three were not winners,” said the 59-year-old. “Then, when I scratched that last ticket and saw the $50,000 prize, I couldn’t believe it.”
The lucky winner went back in the Jessup store with the $5 instant ticket. After checking it on the scanner and seeing the message sending him to Lottery headquarters to claim his prize, the Catonsville resident went up to the woman who sold him the scratch-off.
“I told her I won and thanked her for selling me the ticket,” he said with a big smile.
The winner, who works at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore, has kept his win quiet. He hasn’t decided what to do with his prize, but hopes to take a nice vacation.
JP’s Fine Wine & Spirits located at 7351 Assateague Drive also wins. For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, the store will receive a $500 bonus.
