Laurel Man Served Sizzling Scratch-off Win

Claims $50,000 Hot 5s Hot Streak top prize

A Prince George’s County chef prepared a very special dish for himself containing a dash of Lottery luck, a Hot 5s Hot Streak scratch-off and a spontaneous purchase. He combined all of those winning ingredients with being in the right place at the right time. Although he wishes he could put his winning recipe on a menu for everyone, the 43-year-old is thoroughly pleased with the $50,000 win his dish produced.

A man of few words, the Laurel resident told Maryland Lottery officials that he plays scratch-offs often and wins almost as often. However, he never envisioned a win like the one that found its way to him on Monday.

“I went into a convenience store to get a soda and a scratch ticket. The Hot 5s game was the first one I saw for $5.” Scratching his instant ticket outside in his car, the husband and father was stunned to see so many “5” symbols appear. Uncovering a “5” symbol delivers the associated prize.

“Every 5 had $5,000 underneath. The more I scratched,” he said, “the more 5s I saw and money I won.”

The lucky chef tells us that he’s now thinking about a vacation for his family and the help he can provide his parents. “I am so excited about this win,” he said. “It’ll mean so much to my family.”

This Hot 5s Hot Streak win will mean something to the store that sold the lucky instant ticket, too.  Lottery retailer 24/7 Convenience Store located at 7707 Old Sandy Spring Road in Laurel earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off in the game.

The Hot 5s Hot Streak game, which went on sale in July, still has four $50,000 top prizes remaining along with more than 500,000 other prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
