Laurel Mechanic Wrenches Big Win on Bonus Match 5 Game

Quick stop for quick-pick ticket pays off

A Laurel resident who regularly plays Bonus Match 5 is an even bigger fan of the daily Maryland Lottery draw game after becoming its latest $50,000 winner.

On Monday morning, the lucky player stopped at the KK Mart located at 3497 Fort Meade Road in Laurel on his way to work as a mechanic. He purchased a single $2 ticket for the May 2 drawing, letting the Lottery terminal quick pick his numbers. He was working while the drawing took place and didn’t check his ticket until Tuesday morning at the same Lottery retailer.

“I scanned it and it said, ‘Congratulations,’ but there was no amount,” he said after claiming his top-prize win at Lottery headquarters. “They told me that meant I had to come here [to Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore], so I came straight here.”

The happy winner said he enjoys playing Bonus Match 5, which is the only game he plays, because he thinks that having to match only five numbers makes it easier to win than games in which six numbers are drawn.

He plans to use the money to pay bills and loans, but has no special plans.

“I’ll be bill-free and I’m happy with that,” he said. “I don’t have plans to go spend lots of money or buy things. I’m not materialistic.”

The retailer is a winner as well. For selling the top-prize-winning ticket, KK Mart will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
