Laurel Racetrax Player Changes Bet Type, Wins $55,672.50

Switch from Trifecta to Superfecta Wheel bet leads to big prize

A Maryland Lottery player who favors Racetrax because he doesn’t like to wait long for results needs wait no longer for a big win. He collected a $55,672.50 prize on Dec. 29.

The avid player, a chef by trade, has played Racetrax as a hobby for about 15 years. The Laurel resident likes the fact that he need only wait minutes to see how his horses fare. As he puts it, “If you win, you win. If you lose, you lose.”

Typically, the 51-year-old places a Trifecta bet, where the goal is to pick which computer-animated horses finish first, second and third in that exact order. On Dec. 15, however, he was in the Lottery line at Giant #2301 in Burtonsville when he decided to play a few games using the Superfecta Wheel wager. With this bet type, players pick up to five horses to finish first, second, third and fourth in that exact order, with the cost of the bet based on the number of possible winning combinations.

The chef cooked up a series of numbers to play over 20 races, and the result was a winning recipe. His combinations involved the 1, 9, 10 and 12 horses and he added the Bonus multiplier to his ticket.

When collecting his winnings on Dec. 29, the loyal player was in a hurry to get to work and said he hasn’t thought much about what to do with his Lottery windfall. He said he might use the winnings to make a down payment on a house.

Also scoring a payday is Giant #2301 located at 15618 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville. The Montgomery County store receives a bonus of $556.72 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth $10,000 or more.
