A pool of Powerball-playing lawyers claimed a $50,000 prize in the March 10 drawing.

Group of lucky attorneys snag $50,000 prize in Saturday’s drawing

A five-member Powerball pool of attorneys got served by Lady Luck in the March 10 drawing, receiving a $50,000 win on a $6 quick-pick ticket.

The jackpot-playing group sent the legal eagle who bought the winning ticket to Baltimore, where he claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters. The lucky 27-year-old put his group on the path to good fortune on March 8. Before his morning commute to work that day, the Baltimore County resident stopped at 7-Eleven #21051 at 620 Reisterstown Road in Baltimore to buy several Powerball tickets.

A few days after the March 10 drawing, he stopped at a Lottery retailer to check the tickets to see if any were winners.

“After I scanned the ticket, I was a little surprised to get a message back telling me to come here (Lottery headquarters) to claim our prize,” he said. “This is great, considering we’ve only had our Lottery office pool for only about a year.”

The winner said that he and his co-workers decided to name themselves after a funny line from the TV sitcom, “Arrested Development.”

“One of the characters on the show said: ‘There’s always money in the banana stand.’ We thought it was such a funny line that we decided to use it as our group’s name,” he said.

The group missed only one Powerball number in the drawing. The winning numbers were 43, 44, 54, 61, 69 and Powerball 22. No one hit the jackpot, which rolled to $420 million for tonight’s drawing (March 14) with a cash option of $248.7 million.
