Claims $100,000 top prize on Emerald Riches scratch-off
A Dundalk nursing assistant’s days of riding the bus to work are numbered, as are her nights of worrying about her finances and her housing situation.
Winning $100,000 on a Maryland Lottery Emerald Riches scratch-off will enable the 51-year-old to enjoy a fresh start, she said after claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters. The mother of two adult children plans to buy a vehicle, enroll in college classes this fall to study medical assisting and hopes to buy a house.
The loyal player, who enjoys scratching instant tickets along with trying her luck at Pick 3, Pick 4 and Racetrax, is a regular at Lottery retailer Bayview Liquors at 3804 Eastern Ave. in Baltimore. She usually buys $1 or $5 instant tickets but Friday was pay day and she just felt lucky, she said. The clerk was surprised when she asked for one $10 Emerald Riches instant ticket. She was even more surprised when our winner scratched the ticket in the crowded store and revealed the $100,000 win!
She quietly signed her ticket and, rather than ride the bus home, called her friend to pick her up. All weekend, the ticket remained hidden in her Bible. The only people who know about her win are her friend, his parents and one of her children, she said.
For selling the top-prize ticket, Bayview Liquors will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery. This game still has three $100,000 top prizes and five $10,000 prizes awaiting discovery at Maryland retailers.
