A local Baltimore woman explained to Lottery officials that when she purchases scratch-offs she usually buys them from the same place, Walther Liquors. However, on Monday she was across town doing errands far from her favorite Lottery retailer. So she decided to try three other retailers first. She scratched her tickets but won nothing significant. “That’s when I figured I’d stop in at Walther on my way home,” she said.
Lucky for her she did. She won a $10,000 top-tier prize playing a Blackjack Tripler scratch-off. “After I left Walther, I figured I’d wait till I got home to scratch my tickets,” said the 54-year-old switchboard operator. “When I realized that I had won something big I screamed. I then went and woke my husband so he could make sure I wasn’t imaging it. Then I went back to Walther to let them know!”
Walther Liquors is certainly no stranger to getting big winners. It was the same retailer that sold Bunky Bartlett his $82.5 million Mega Millions ticket.
Although, her prize is not millions of dollars, the lucky winner told Lottery officials that it will certainly help her pay off a few bills. “This also gives me a little spending money to play around with now. My husband and I may even take an exotic trip.”
“We’re always happy when a regular customer wins big,” said Christina Ebmeier, owner of Walther Liquors. “She certainly deserves it.”
