Lightning Strikes: Multi-Match Produces 3rd Consecutive Jackpot Winner

Subscriber from Gaithersburg wins $500,000 Multi-Match jackpot

There were fireworks in the air for the Fourth of July, and in the days leading up to the holiday celebration, lightning struck three times for Multi-Match players.

On July 3, the Maryland Lottery’s twice-weekly in-state jackpot game produced a jackpot winner for the third consecutive drawing. The winner is a Gaithersburg resident who purchased a subscription to Multi-Match that included all six numbers drawn on July 3. Those numbers were: 7, 12, 14, 17, 32 and 33. Lottery officials will notify the subscriber and provide instructions on how to claim the prize. The winner will have the choice between an annuity of $500,000 or a lump sum payment of $250,000 (before taxes).

The subscriber’s win followed jackpot hits in the June 26 and June 29 drawings. The Lottery is still waiting for those two winners to come forward and claim their prizes.

The winner in the June 29 drawing also has the choice of a $500,000 annuity or a lump sum of $250,000 (before taxes). Broadway Pizza, located at 7965 Tuckerman Lane in Rockville, sold the winning ticket, which matched the six winning numbers: 8, 18, 29, 31, 35 and 37.

In the June 26 drawing, Cross Keys Exxon, located at 4434 Falls Road in Baltimore, sold the winning ticket, which included a line that matched the six winning numbers: 1, 4, 12, 22, 39 and 40. The winner of that drawing can choose between an annuity of $1 million, or a lump sum payment of $600,000 (before taxes).

Lottery officials encourage the winners to sign the backs of the tickets immediately and keep them in safe locations. Players have 182 days to claim the prizes in person at Lottery headquarters located at 1800 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore.

With these three hits, Multi-Match has now produced six jackpot winners during 2017. The other three were a Glen Burnie man who claimed a $1.35 million prize in the Jan. 16 drawing; a Berlin man who claimed a $1 million jackpot in the March 23 drawing; and an Ellicott City man who claimed a $725,000 prize in the April 27 drawing.

The top three jackpot wins in the game’s history were $4.8 million on Sept. 19, 2009; $4.45 million on March 18, 2010 and $3.8 million on Dec. 16, 2010.

Multi-Match, which launched in 2006, is a $2 game drawn on Monday and Thursday nights. The Lottery draws six winning numbers from 1 to 43. Players receive one line of six numbers that they can choose themselves, and the Lottery terminal randomly selects two additional lines of six numbers. Players must match between three and five numbers on any one line to win up to $1,000, and between five and 18 numbers total on all three lines combined to win up to $2,000 more. To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers on any one line. The jackpot starts at $500,000 and increases after each drawing that does not produce a jackpot winner. The overall chances of winning are 1 in 8.5.
