Frederick County woman claims prize on new 50X The Cash game
She did not intend to buy a Maryland Lottery instant ticket when she stopped for gas earlier this week, said the 49-year-old Frederick County resident. A sudden image of her Lottery winning father, however, prompted her to do so and fueled her $50,000 scratch-off win.
The Jefferson massage therapist bought her lucky 50X The Cash scratch-off at Pilot Travel Center #179 located at 16921 Halfway Boulevard in Hagerstown.
“I saw the Lottery display and immediately flashed to my dad winning $50,000 last summer,” said the Western Maryland woman. “I remembered that he’d won with a multiplier ticket.”
Front and center in the store’s instant ticket selection was 50X The Cash, a game that offers players a chance to multiply their prizes. “When I saw that they had a multiplier game, I just had to get one.”
The lucky player was so convinced that the apparent $50,000 prize was a mistake that she called her father.
“It was pretty early in the morning. I was on the way to work,” she said. “Dad was groggy, but when I told him what I saw on the ticket he immediately became super excited for me.”
Her husband, however, was a different story — at first. “He was sure that I was joking. He just wouldn’t believe it,” she told Lottery officials after claiming her prize. “When I’d buy a ticket with him in the past, he’d tell me that there was no chance I’d win, that the odds were against the family winning big twice.” She certainly proved him wrong!
50X The Cash is one of four members of the Multiplier Family of Games that launched Jan. 20. Players can choose the $1 5X The Cash, $2 10X The Cash, $5 20X The Cash and $10 50X The Cash games.
