Before the magic happened, Oct. 29 was a normal day for Hurlock resident Robert Matthews. He cashed in a few winning Lottery tickets at Hometown Pride in Dorchester County, purchased a couple of games of Keno with the Bonus option and went on his way.
A day later, when Robert examined his Keno ticket using the My Lottery Rewards app, his excitement grew. His phone displayed a strange message. Robert then pulled up his game using the Lottery’s Keno app and watched the game results as they unfolded days ago. His long-shot 10-spot wager with the Bonus multiplier feature won big! The Eastern Shore man matched nine numbers for $4,000 and a 5x multiplier kicked his win to $20,000. The prize tally finished at $20,012 when Robert’s final game registered zero matches, good for an additional $12.
Robert plans to save his winnings and make the holiday season more fun by secretly dispensing a portion of the prize to family members in December.
The 67-year-old made the lucky purchase at Hometown Pride on 104 Main Street in East New Market. For selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more, the Lottery retailer earns a bonus of $200 — equal to 1 percent of the prize.
