Hagerstown man wins $20,000 top prize on Ravens-themed game

A professional football fan looking forward to the Super Bowl already feels like he won a championship — for good reason. Hagerstown’s Ramiro Ramos just won a $20,000 top prize on a football-themed Maryland Lottery scratch-off.

Ramiro latched on to the Los Angeles Rams while growing up in Texas and has followed them ever since. On the edge of his seat since his team clinched a berth to the National Football League championship, the 55-year-old was ready to cartwheel through the uprights after scratching off several Ravens X5 instant tickets Sunday.

The winner found a super lucky instant ticket at The Corner Pub in Hagerstown, where he purchased the $2 games. On one game, he revealed several numbers that matched the winning numbers! Beneath each number, he saw prizes ranging from $500 to $5,000.

“I didn’t know if I had only won one of the prizes,” said the Washington County resident. He told Lottery officials that after a quick replay using the store ticket scanner, he realized he won all of the prizes!

The maintenance man for a local hotel chain plans to use some of his $20,000 prize to pay bills. He and friends Milton Acevedo, Julio Melendez and Juan Javier Ramos — who accompanied him to claim the prize — will also have a Super celebration when they gather to watch the Rams play in the Super Bowl in two weeks!

The Corner Pub is also a winner. The Washington County retailer located at 158 South Mulberry Street earns a $200 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize. Players can stop by the lucky store or other Lottery retailers to find the four remaining $20,000 top prize in this game.
