A Rockville Lottery fan who decided to play Keno didn’t know it would lead to his biggest prize to date — on a completely different game! The happy man won a $50,000 top prize in the June 4 Bonus Match 5 drawing.
Keno is one of his favorite Maryland Lottery games, said the loyal player. The Montgomery County resident started on the path to his big prize when he visited Lottery retailer Corner Market & Pharmacy in Rockville. The 62-year-old purchased two different Keno tickets there.
The lucky grandfather ran some errands and, after time passed, remembered the tickets! The player returned to Corner Market & Pharmacy to see if Lottery luck had come his way. Both were winners for a prize totaling $25.50. While he decided whether to reinvest his winnings or call it a night, the store cashier suggested he buy one quick-pick ticket for the evening’s Bonus Match 5 drawing. Feeling lucky, the player agreed. He purchased a $6 ticket and went home.
Hours later, after getting into bed, the Lottery fan grabbed his phone to check the Bonus Match 5 drawing results. He was completely confused and then excited to see the winning numbers match his numbers. Wanting to confirm his big win, the player got dressed and went back out to find a Lottery retailer that was still open. He got his answer after scanning the ticket with the store ticket checker — he won the game’s top prize!
The winner shared his good news with his daughter, signed the back of the ticket immediately and kept it in a safe place. He claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters Monday morning. The happy man plans to pay bills with the winnings and give some of his prize to his newborn grandchild.
