Claims top prize on Ravens scratch-off game
Happy Birthday, grandma! Camealia Smith of Easton was overjoyed to claim her $100,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery Ravens scratch-off on the day of her 87th birthday!
Lucky Camealia purchased the ticket on Saturday while running errands. The part-time Denny’s employee stopped in the 7-Eleven #18677 in Easton and, not knowing much about the game, chose the $5 Ravens scratch-off.
“I don’t even watch football,” said the winner. “The ticket just appealed to me.”
Camealia waited until she got home to scratch the instant ticket and immediately knew she won $100,000. Before she took the ticket back to the store to have the win verified, the Talbot County resident had to sit down and relax with a glass of water for a few minutes.
“I just could not believe it,” Camealia said. “I almost had a heart attack.”
After going back to the 7-Eleven to confirm what she already knew, the winner shared her great news with her oldest daughter, Rose Madison, who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters.
“She left a voice message saying she won,” said Rose. “How do you leave that kind of message?”
The fortunate grandma to a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren plans to spend some of her winnings on home improvements and will save the rest. “She needs to do something for herself,” said Rose. “She deserves it.”
Her lucky 7-Eleven also wins! For selling the top-prize ticket, the store located at 410 North Washington Street in Easton receives a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
The Ravens scratch-off still has two $100,000 top-prize winning tickets and eight $10,000 winners in the stores awaiting discovery. The instant ticket’s second-chance contest gives those with non-winning Ravens scratch-offs the chance to win Ravens tickets for 20 years, cash, 2016 season tickets or a family four-pack game-day package.
