Win Top Prize in $250,000 Super Jackpot Scratch-off

Ed and Kelly Burl of Pasadena visited Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Monday, the day of their 19th wedding anniversary, to claim a very green gift – $250,000! The couple plan to celebrate in style with the top-prize winnings from a $250,000 Super Jackpot scratch-off ticket.

Like many, the Burls have experienced recent financial challenges. “Before the win, we were considering not going out for our anniversary,” said Kelly. “But, now, we can go anywhere.”

The homemaker and mother-of-three bought the ticket on Friday after grocery shopping at her local Giant Food. She said she typically pays with her debit card, gets money back and plays a couple of scratch-off tickets. On this day, she purchased one $250,000 Super Jackpot scratch-off and played the game in her car.

“When I saw the first three numbers, I thought it was only $250,” she said, sighing. “As I continued to scratch, I saw more and more zeroes.” She verified the win with the cashier inside the store and then shared the news with her children and Ed, who is a corrections officer at Maryland Correctional Institution.

“I was having a really stressful day when she called and I told her to not play, because there was a lot going on,” he said. “She tried to convince me, but I still asked my sister to go over and check the ticket anyway.” Ed’s sister said it looked like a winner to her and even though he also confirmed the ticket’s validity, he remained doubtful. “I thought it still might be a fake ticket,” he said.

In addition to spending some of the winnings on a nice anniversary celebration, the couple plans to donate to their church, pay some bills and help family members. Kelly bought the winning ticket at the Giant Food located at 4315 Mountain Road in Pasadena.
