Lottery Luck Showers Owings Mills Man with Green

Claims $11,248 Racetrax prize

The Lottery luck that has hovered over a Baltimore County grandfather for years shows no sign of dissipating! A spur-of-the-moment Racetrax Superfecta bet on 20 races showered the 74-year-old with green. His prize totaled $11,248!

“The Lottery has been great to me,” said the retired restaurant owner.

The husband, father of two and grandfather of three stopped by Anna’s Deli Plus in Germantown on the way home from visiting family. He bought a 20-draw Racetrax ticket, betting on the 1, 6, 9 and 10 horses because those numbers are tied to family birthdays. The Owings Mills man stuck the ticket in his wallet and planned to use the Maryland Lottery App on his smartphone later to check the results.

“I was getting gas a few hours later and remembered to look up my race,” he said. “I was ecstatic when I saw that my numbers came in – just blown away to win more than $11,000.”

After celebrating silently at the pumps, the loyal Lottery player immediately called his wife. No answer. “I decided to go to the Lottery and then surprise her with the money,” he said.

The only downside, he said, is that news of his latest win won’t be much of a shock to her. “I’ve won $10,000 three times and $2,500 four times. She’s used to me bringing her home Lottery money.”

The prize will go toward the couple’s plans to travel to the West Coast to be part of their nephew’s college graduation. “We’ll be going out to eat a few more times than I’d planned, and at fancier restaurants,” he predicted.

For selling a winning Racetrax ticket over $10,000, the lucky retailer receives a Lottery bonus. Anna’s Deli Plus located at 11512 Middlebrook Road will receive a $112.48 bonus.
