Carroll County waiter Joseph Vogtman holds up two fingers representing how many times he’s won a $10,000 Lottery prize!

New Windsor man takes home $10,000 scratch-off prize

He got there just in time, Joseph Vogtman of New Windsor told Lottery officials on Friday. Walking into his favorite lottery retailer moments before closing time, he picked out an instant ticket – Cash Craze Crossword – and quickly scratched the bar code at the bottom so not to inconvenience the store’s staff.  Maybe it was karma at work or just the usual random chance, but his hurried scratching produced a $10,000 win, days before Christmas.

“I love playing the crossword games but they take a little longer to scratch and I didn’t want to make the people there wait for me,” the 46-year-old waiter shared.  When Joseph scanned his ticket and realized that he’d won big, he said out loud, “I did it again!”  This $10,000 win is his second in just over a year.  “I was shocked, so much so that I hugged the cashier.  He was a little freaked out.”

That huggable clerk works for Mace Liquors at 507 Mace Avenue in Rosedale.  The lucky scratch game, Cash Craze Crossword, debuted in June and so far rewarded players with two of its eight $30,000 top prizes and two of its eight second-tier $10,000 prizes.

Joseph tells us that he’ll use his winnings for some late Christmas gifts and to help family and friends who are dealing with hard times.  “Whenever I have extra in the bank I share with the people around me.  They’ve all helped me from time to time.”
